Virtual Card Fees and Minimum Amounts

Written by Eva

Before creating and using an Eversend virtual card, it's important to understand the applicable fees, minimum funding requirements, and international transaction charges.

Minimum amount required to create a virtual card

When creating a virtual card, you'll need to fund it with a minimum amount based on your selected subscription plan.

Monthly subscription plan (USD 1/month)

To create a virtual card on the monthly plan, you need a minimum initial card load of USD 2.

  • USD 1 covers your first monthly card subscription fee.

  • The remaining USD 1 is added to your card balance and is available for you to spend.

One-time payment plan (USD 3)

To create a virtual card on the one-time payment plan, you need a minimum initial card load of USD 6.

  • USD 3 covers the one-time card fee.

  • The remaining USD 3 is added to your card balance and is available for you to spend.

Insufficient funds decline fee

If a card payment is declined because your virtual card does not have enough funds, an insufficient funds fee of USD 0.40 will be charged.

Please note:

  1. This fee is not refundable.

  2. It is not a temporary authorization hold.

  3. To avoid this fee, ensure your virtual card has enough balance before making a payment.

Foreign Exchange (FX) / International Transaction Fee

An FX (Foreign Exchange) or International Transaction Fee applies when:

  • You make a payment in a currency other than USD, or

  • Your transaction is processed or settled outside the United States, even if the payment is made in USD.

The applicable fee is:

  • 3.5% of the transaction amount + USD 0.50

Examples of when an FX fee applies

You'll be charged an FX fee when paying in currencies such as:

  • Nigerian Naira (NGN)

  • Euro (EUR)

  • Ugandan Shilling (UGX)

  • Ghanaian Cedi (GHS)

  • Or any other non-USD currency

An FX fee may also apply when paying a U.S. merchant in USD if the merchant processes or settles payments outside the United States.

For example, Facebook Ads payments may incur an FX fee because, although Meta is a U.S.-based company, some payments are settled through Dublin, Ireland.

Why am I charged an FX fee?

These fees are charged by international card networks and payment processors (such as Visa and Mastercard) for cross-border transactions.

Because these charges are determined by the card network, they are outside Eversend's control.

How can I avoid extra fees?

To help avoid unnecessary charges:

  • Always keep enough funds on your virtual card before making a payment.

  • Ensure your card balance is sufficient to cover both the purchase amount and any applicable fees.

  • Where possible, make payments in USD with merchants that process transactions within the United States to reduce the likelihood of cross-border fees.

For a complete list of applicable charges, please refer to the Eversend Transaction Fees article.
